- Change how you think
A lot of people who change the way they eat struggle simply because they weren’t mentally or emotionally ready for the transition. Their body is fine but their heads feel a little (nutritionally) neglected because they are accustomed to eating in a certain way. If you go into the process with a negative attitude, you won`t succeed. Focus on what you`re gaining and learning; not what you`re missing out on and before you eat every meal ask yourself, "Do I need this…or want this?"
- Boost blood flow
The brain uses around 20 per cent of the body’s blood flow and oxygen supply. Blood brings oxygen, sugar, vitamins and other nutrients to the brain and disposes off carbon dioxide and other toxic waste products. What to do: Blood flow decreases over time, so make sure you keep active every day, get enough sleep every night, stay hydrated (remember the brain is made up of 80 per cent water) and avoid smoking, alcohol and caffeine, as these all disrupt the blood flow.
- Choose sanity over stress
Many of us live life at a furious pace, much of it self-imposed. Such a hectic lifestyle can create health issues such as depression, insomnia, eating disorders, heart problems- the list goes on. It`s easy to get caught up in the pace and madness of it all, but for many of us, the cost to our health, our relationships and our sense of peace isn`t worth it. Take time to consider your lifestyle and to assess whether you are happy, healthy and fulfilled.
