Health benefits of tender coconut

Posted by Elizebath Bijoy Friday, March 11, 2011

There are many things we need to know about the wonders of coconut water. Coconut water is the soft, watery liquid inside of young coconuts, which is actually quite different from the fluid in mature coconuts, and neither are to be confused with coconut milk. A more useless fact is that the smell comes from 6-pentyloxan-2-one, delta-decalactone. It might help to know that if you are making perfume, but for the rest of us, we need to know about the health benefits, which are many. Tender coconut refers to young, immature coconuts, which are higher in health benefits than older coconuts.
They are reputed to help infants with intestinal disturbances. (Need it be said, consult a doctor before feeding anything to your child as medicine. Not all home health cures may work, and a misdiagnoses can be deadly.) Coconut water is a healthy, mouth watering, organic growth promoting, cooling, intestinal worm killing tonic for the elderly and infirm. Also, it is believed to that applying it to the body helps with prickly heat, summer boils, and diseased caused rashes such as chicken pox, measles and more. It is reported to assist with urinary infections, and is commonly quoted as being good for ailments down there, including digestive problems and helps to heal from sexual problems, like an all natural Viagra. Despite all the people guzzling it as a sport drink, it is known to be a diuretic, which means it reduces fluid in the body, not something you want when dehydrated.
It is high in saline and can be used for intravenous fluid. Doctors have been using it for over sixty years. Perhaps that is why it may help with kidney and urine tract problems, and urethral stones. Used as a red plasma substitute, coconut water is sterile until opened, not rejected by the body, and doesn't destroy red blood cells. It helps the body absorb drugs quickly with its electrolytic effect. Some use coconut water to assist with mineral poisoning.
It also is thought to fix malnourishment, being high in vitamins and minerals and protein. The water in young coconuts, have potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphorous, iron, copper, sulphur. It is very high in potassium and other minerals, which could be the reason it helps with all the urinary problems. The small amount of protein is higher in some things than cow's milk, like arginine, alanine, cystine, and serene. There is a complicated mix of vitamins, proteins, minerals, amino acids, carbohydrates, and those age defying antioxidants.

The legends and tales of coconut waters healing powers have lately been confirmed, most of them, anyway, by science. It can balance body chemistry, prevent disease, and help fight cancer, along with all the other wonderful properties already mentioned. Some believe it can reduce swelling in extremities, balance blood sugar in diabetics, provide ionic minerals, assist digestion, relieve constipation (here I have been using prunes. New cure, alright.) reduce heart disease risk, help your blood circulate, lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol, arthrosclerosis, blood clotting, discolored aging spot on skin. That's a long list to for mere coconut water to fight. It restores skin elasticity skin and healing of wound and lesions.
The tender coconut water is ninety to ninety five percent water, and the young, or baal, tender coconut is the most healing and purest, compared to older, mature coconuts.
It is used a lot in Hindu cooking, and when combined with spices like cinnamon or ginger, it though to heal the digestive system and metabolism. Food that heals, now that's something I can enjoy. But it's not just food;coconut oil can give a person long, shiny hair. It is drunk by older women to help with hot flashes and emotional needs.
Coconut milk comes from grating the flesh, or white part, of the coconut. The flesh and the coconut water is found in the space surrounded by a thing called endosperm. The coconut water is liquid endosperm. I don't like drinking something with the word sperm in it, I'm going to stick with calling it coconut water. It tastes like watered down coconut, and is considered to be a great help with pms. Coconuts are sold in the produce section of most stores, and the milk is found in cans in health food sections or in the cooking aisle. When buying the coconut, look for really young ones, and I recommend buying the easy to open ones, marked as such with a sticker. Puncture the outer shell with a nail, and then use a hammer. Do not whack the coconut on a counter, we still have a cracked spot on the counter from that episode. The cement floor in a garage is recommended.
Coconuts are high in saturated fats, though less than in almonds, it still is ninety percent saturated fat. Ouch. It is higher than butter when it comes to this bad fat, though many argue that the fat is healthier than other fats.

With all the healing benefits and wonders of tender coconut it is easy to see why it is considered a new miracle food, cure all, and over all best sport drink. It tastes refreshing, and the white part can be used in cooking, or eaten raw. It may not be the next best wonder fruit, but given the health benefits, it can be worth eating.
